Japanese restaurant Kei

Image
Kei ia Kuwait's oldest fine dining Japanese restaurants. It is now located on the ground floor of the JW Marriott hotel in Kuwait city. We reached there by around 9 pm. It was a Friday and there were a few customers only. We were warmly greeted when we entered. The waitresses were smartly dressed in Kimono's (Japanese ward robes) and escorted us inside. There were regular tables and two teppanyaki tables. We chose a teppanyaki table where we can watch the food being cooked (right under our nose!). The table had chopsticks and white napkins laid out. The seating was high but cozy and comfortable.  They gave us the menu cards. It was a long list - Starters, Salads, Soups, California maki rolls, Sashimi, Sushi, Teppanyaki, Teriyaki, Set meals, Bento boxes and of course desserts,  We settled down and took some time to decide on what to order.  For the soup, we ordered a miso soup. Miso soup is a clear soup made of tofu, spring onions, seaweed and leaves.  T...

Caesars restaurant since 1973

Caesars is a Chinese and Continental restaurant located in Kuwait city. We reached there at around 9 30 pm. When we reach there, the manager Rudolf came and greeted me warmly. We know him since a long time. I noticed that the interiors had been given the touch of a Chinese feel with Chinese lanterns and letters and congratulated him. I also noticed a kind of nice picture of China hung on the wall. The lighing was brighter than before and softly lit. We were escorted to our table in a few minutes. Almost all the tables were taken. The table layout was neat and clean but the napkin was missing. But it did have a cutlery laid out. The seating was very comfortable as usual as the furniture was the same. The waiter came and asked us if we wanted bread, their usual starter and we asked for the toast. A little later he came and apologized saying that it was over. Not quite a Chinese starter i know!  We protested as that was one item here that we liked a lot. Rudolf came to our resc...

Freej Restaurant

Freej is a lebanese restaurant located in Kuwait city old souk in Mubarakiya.   We reached there at around 7.45 pm yesterday evening for dinner. The place was already   quite crowded. When I entered I noticed that it had the ambience of a traditional Kuwaiti building.   We sat at an available table; there was no formal seating. The lighting was dim but it gave the place a nice feel. The place was neat and tidy. The seats were nice and comfortable.   Soon after a waiter bought some raw carrots and raw onions with two dips – green chillies and red chilies in an oil base.  I had a chicken soup which comes in a bun.  Thar was very good. Then we were served starters – nice and hot Iranian “quboos” (Arabic bread made of whole wheat flour) with ‘baba ganouj’ (crushed eggplant with onions, olive oil, chopped onions and chopped tomatoes) – a cold starter inside a corn tortilla bowl. I had some carrots and onions with dip. It was not spicy and I liked the taste. I ...
